Vincent J. Lique

On March 20, 2006, Vince Lique passed away. His loss was felt deeply throughout the Agency, as well as throughout the Greater Lynn community and regional elder and human service agencies with which he had worked closely during his 35-year career.

When Vince arrived as the new Executive Director of Greater Lynn Senior Services in the fall of 1982, the Agency’s staff numbered about 50 and its annual budget was less than $2 million. Today, nearly 25 years later, the agency employs a staff of almost 500; its annual budget is more than $30 million. This extraordinary growth is testimony to the foresight of a visionary leader and dedicated advocate for senior citizens throughout the community and beyond. As the Agency evolved, Vince never lost sight of its true mission—to meet the needs of the neediest—and he demanded that all people be treated with dignity and respect. These principles are the foundation upon which GLSS was built, and they will continue to guide the Agency into the future.

Vince was not only instrumental in growing GLSS but also in advocating for other human service agencies and organizations. He was a founding member of Mass Home Care, the statewide advocacy and planning organization for GLSS and the other 26 Aging Services Access Points. He was also a founding member of the nation’s first PACE (Program for All-inclusive Care for Elders) program, a social, HMO-style health plan that allows nursing home-eligible elders to remain at home, as well as the state’s first elder-specific residential program for individuals with chronic mental health issues. For these and other accomplishments, he was the recipient of many awards and was a well-known advocate for the elderly.

If you care to remember Vince, you can send a donation in his memory to the Lique Living Legacy Fund [clicking on the fund name will link viewers to a new page and menu option “How You Can Help Us”.]. This emergency fund for low-income seniors was established by Vince and his wife, Kathy, and has been named in his honor.
