Although many of our programs are funded in whole or in part by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs and the United States Administration on Aging, we depend on and welcome community support to help us meet the needs of local elders.

8 Silsbee Street Renovation Project
You can help us bring together two of the city’s greatest resources—those who serve seniors and the seniors they serve—under one roof.

GLSS is undertaking an ambitious effort to raise $3.5 million to renovate a venerable downtown landmark (the former J.B. Blood Market on Silsbee Street) to serve as the Agency’s headquarters. This project makes good fiscal and operational sense for GLSS and our target client base, while also contributing to the continued revitalization of the surrounding community. When renovations are complete, GLSS’ service space will be increased by nearly 50 percent, creating areas where staff can meet privately with elders and families; facilitating meetings with community members that drop by; and providing adequate space for staff to serve the programs that directly impact the lives of clients.

The Lique Living Legacy Fund
To honor and celebrate the memory spirit, and vision of Vince Lique, an inspirational leader and dedicated and faithful advocate for seniors in the community.

Vince Lique, the former Executive Director of GLSS who recently passed away, and his wife, Kathy, made a generous donation to establish an emergency fund at GLSS in 2004. In his typical style, Vince recognized a need, and he did something about it. The emergency fund that was important to him has now been renamed in his honor.

The fund allows the agency to reach beyond its human service mission to provide quick, meaningful assistance to clients needing a helping hand with unusual or unexpected expenses: the kind of emergencies that occur in everyone’s life but that can have a devastating effect on seniors struggling to maintain their independence. Quite simply, it buys a new pair of eyeglasses or needed food or an air conditioner to keep a homebound client comfortable during a heatwave.

To those who knew Vince well, it is easy to see why the creation of this fund appealed to him on so many levels: as a compassionate human being, tireless advocate, smart administrator, forward-thinking leader.

Emergency Fuel Assistance Fund

Like the Lique Living Legacy Fund, the Emergency Fuel Assistance Fund has been established to provide support to seniors in the community who are already “living on the edge,” just barely hanging on to their independence, struggling to make ends meet on very low, fixed incomes, forced to make difficult decisions in the face of rising energy costs.
