Transportation Options
Currently, there are multiple transportation options available. You must medically qualify for some of these options.
Elder or Medically-Qualified Transportation

A GLSS Transportation VanDo you need a ride?

  • To a medical appointment? Transportation requests for medical appointments. GLSS Medical runs Monday though Friday. Request lines are open from 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. GLSS requires a two business day notice. Passengers can travel to a doctor's appointment between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. ( 8:30 being the first appointment and 3:30 being the last return.) GLSS service area includes Lynn, Lynnfield, Nahant, Saugus, & Swampscott. Drop offs in Salem are also 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (GLSS does not pick up residents in Salem or Peabody. GLSS goes to Peabody for drop offs only after 9:30 a.m., no later than 3:30 for returns. Saugus residents pick up only in wheelchair.) For more information or to schedule a ride:

  • To anywhere? If you’re any age and have a doctor-certified disability prohibiting you from using public transportation, you’re eligible for affordable door-to-door service 365 days a year, throughout the North Shore and Greater Boston area, thanks to the MBTA’s “THE RIDE.” Go wherever you like: THE RIDE is not restricted to medical appointments.

The MBTA uses an electronic fare system. All riders must have adequate funds in their THE RIDE account when making a reservation.

Mobility Links - Anyone Qualifies

If you need help navigating the transportation options in your community, our Travel Counseling Center staff can help you identify choices and solutions to meet your transportation needs.

MobilityLinks gives you the tools to remain active and independent by better understanding how to access, tap into, and wisely utilize the local transportation network.

Staff in our Travel Counseling Center can help you explore and map all your transportation options, both public and private, free and for-fee services.

 

 What is the Travel Counseling Center? Who can call the Center? 

The Travel Counseling Center is staffed by GLSS personnel,
who maintain a database of all the transportation options on the North Shore.

Anyone of any age who needs  information about transportation can call.
